Shelby Van Pelt ’02

Author of Remarkably Bright Creatures

Shelby Van Pelt (CMC'02) is a New York Times-bestselling author whose debut novel, Remarkably Bright Creatures (HarperCollins, 2022), has sold over a million copies. An alumna of the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics program and a recovering consultant, she now splits her time between the Chicagoland and northwest Montana.

I’m thrilled that the Gould Center is helping CMC students nurture their humanistic and creative sides, and I could not be more enthusiastic about supporting that process. Arts and humanities have an irreplaceable role in our rapidly-changing world, and the Gould is doing incredible work to prepare CMCers for lives and careers that will support, challenge, and fulfill them. Whether it’s helping bring a pop-up immersive art experience to campus or recruiting renowned speakers, it’s an honor and a joy to contribute to the success of the Gould by serving on the board.
